The Designer
Most. Ruma Khatun is a premier Bangladeshi apparel designer and master pattern maker whose work embodies the soul of South Asian craftsmanship elevated to international haute couture standards. Operating from her atelier in Rajshahi, she fuses age-old textile traditions — hand-block printing, wax-resist batik, and Muslin-inspired silhouettes — with mathematically precise pattern engineering.
Each piece begins as a pencil line on drafting paper and ends as a living sculpture on the human form — a testament to her belief that fashion is architecture for the body.
The Studio
From Technical Blueprint to Draped Masterpiece — A Three-Act Journey
Every garment begins on the drafting table. Using French curves, rulers, and decades of anatomical intuition, Ruma transforms body measurements into precise 2D block patterns. Darts are engineered for sculptural body-contouring.
The 2D blueprint comes to life through draping on a custom-fitted half-scale mannequin. Muslin toiles are pinned, folded, and sculpted to achieve the ideal fall, volume, and architectural silhouette before precious fabric is cut.
Hand-carved teak blocks stamp molten wax onto woven muslin. The resist-dyed fabric is immersed in natural indigo, saffron, and organic dye vats — layer by layer — to create the signature crackle-vein textures that define Ruma's batik artistry.
